Blessed Block - Ignite Speech and Speech Choir Competition

What a great way to end the academic year isn't it? We didn't expect the awards our block had received today but we are truly grateful for the blessings.
On the event itself it was a bit saddening that this English term will be the last for now because of the new k-12 curriculum Ms. Elise was a bit emotional with everything.
Now to be honest we weren’t expecting to place for the speech choir because we know that the other blocks did well on their performances. And before we even finished our piece our block went to a lot of ups and downs. But despite all the struggles of our block, I can proudly say I love being part of ABMA 151 we may have issues sometimes but what I think is that’s what makes us strong, what makes us a family. And also I’m so lucky to be part of a group where there are so many talented and potential students! Deymm! HAHAHA!

My thoughts about the competition…..

For the ignite competition I was pretty confident that Gem would win the award because I know a lot of students can relate to her topic and caught everyone’s attention.

For the best AVP presentation I thought we had a big chance of winning the award. We chose not to brag about it because we are still grateful for all the other awards tho! HAHAH! :D :D

For the speech choir competition, I personally thought ABMA153 “without being bias” would win the competition but sadly the results turn out to be pretty much not what I expected.

But still I’d like to congratulate all the winners. Especially to the SoE students who did pretty impressive though-out the whole English term.

Public Speaking Competition : INTEGRITY

Integrity :The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.

Different students from different sections competed for this terms Public Speaking contest held in the APC Auditorium. Are class representatives were Jerica Valerio, Jod Gulle, Aurora Corong, Amber Greiz De Velez, Kristopher Coquia and Angela Farinas. Each one of them did a great job of explaining what integrity for them means.

Just being part of the audience I can feel every speakers nervousness while on stage because let’s all be honest one of the hardest things to do in life is to speak to a crowd of people, where they are just going to look at you and judge you and wait for you to commit a mistake; take note, that’s a competition my friend so all ears are there to hear your grammar floss and wait for you to stutter.

But still I’d like to congratulate all speakers who did well on their speeches; I know they put a lot of effort and time, for them to be able to construct a good speech and also to persuade everyone. They explained very clearly what integrity means for them, they even stated examples and facts that are reliable enough to believe. Some did their speeches in an Entertainment speech, some are informative and persuasive or whatever form of speech. They still did their best to give as a good set off speeches to showcase.

I myself have an explanation about integrity, for me integrity is something that must be truthful; to yourself and to what you believe in. Regardless of what other people and the society will think of you after, what matters most is that you have your strong principles in life you believe in. Integrity is like choosing your thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain.

Sana Dati

A 2013 Filipino romantic drama film written and directed by  Jerrod Tarog.

Andrea - Lovi Poe
Andrew - Benjamin Alves
Dennis - Paulo Avelino
Robert - TJ Trinidad

We all hoped for someone to come to our life and be the reason of our existence. We always hope of someone to come to that will make us happy and never leave us, but not all  fairytales ends with a happy ending. There will come a time that they will have to leave you. Yes, it will take a lot of time for your heart to heal, for you to feel complete again and after everything your heart has been to you will be whole again, but not yet in this moment.

This movie has scored a 7.8/10 rating in IMDb but if I were to rate this movie I would gladly rate it a 10/10 Why? Unlike any other cliché films we get to watch on the main stream this movie is far more beautiful than any other films we are able to watch on our televisions. Indie films may not be that popular as you think but indie films bring out the feeling of what’s really happening in the real life.

It is just so tragic that Andrea lost her love, Andrew, before they even got the chance to get married. There are things we do for us to be happy for the meant time I think that what pushed her to marry Robert when she is still in the sorrow of losing Andrew.

I think one of the hardest parts for a person is to forget the one they truly love because it is not an easy thing to do. You will never know when or how you will be able to forget, but before you know it; all the feelings will just fade away.
This movie thought me to appreciate the person who stands there by your side, you must see their effort because you never know what could happen to them; you may not get the chance to thank them or worst case scenarios see them again.

Who wants to be a millionaire ? (ERC) Edition

The English Resource Center conducted an event called “Who wants to be a millionaire?”  But unlike any other game shows the contestants here are the students of Asia Pacific College who are taking up the English Term and some of the contestants are students from different courses.

My blockmates Kristopher Andree Coquia, Jerica Valerio, and Marlou Macalalad were the chosen students to represent our block ABMA 151. Each group of representatives went through a series of random questions about books, authors and vocabularies. The questions were actually challenging, I myself was trying to answer the questions flashing on the screen and I also had a hard time answering them.

The game went from easy to average to difficult questions. Our representative was able to pass through the easy round; almost all of them did but the scoring system had to be changed because there were many ties. Our block representatives were lucky enough to pass the average round but sadly they were not able to pass through the Final round. Five blocks moved on and the winners were the representatives from ABMA136 and ABMA152.

It was fun and you’ll really learn something from it at the same time you’re enjoying to watch them play. Being an audience has its benefits as well. It may not be the cash prizes and the trophies but the knowledge of what you learn from watching them.

Even though my blockmates were not able to pass the final round I’m still proud of them because I know they did their best and besides from that what really matters most is that they enjoyed the game and they accepted their failure with sportsmanship and we were there to support them through-out the game Yey!! , And I know everyone who were there to attend the event really enjoyed .

Paddington (Darkest Peru to London Journey)

A family of a rare species of bears was living in the placed called darkest Peru they were living a normal life they even celebrated the marmalade day because it was the season for the citrus fruits to get ripped, they were having a lot of fun when suddenly an earthquake happen that destroyed their home and killed Uncle Pastuzo. So Aunt Lucy decided to bring Paddington to a ship travelling to London.

Paddington was expecting to find a home that easy but I wasn't. He met the Brown family Mrs. Brown and Jonathan like Paddington because of his politeness and cuteness but Mr. Brown took a while for him to accept Paddington in the family, they were also the one who helped him find the explorer who went to darkest Peru but sadly he was gone but Paddington still met the daughter of the explorer but it wasn't that welcoming, it was horrifying instead.

It’s been a while since I watch an animated film .I must say the story is really amazing it just doesn't simply tell a story it makes us learn a moral to it. It’s not your typical animated film it’s something you must recommend your family to watch because I know it will make their hearts soft and really feel the character of Paddington.

Now I'm speaking as a multimedia art student I would like to commend the editors and animators most especially the director of this film because they really did a job when it comes to graphic wise, Overall they really did a very excellent job same goes to the Actors and actresses of the film.

If were to rate this film I would rate it 9/10 because of its excellent overall presentation to its audience. JJ

Benjamin Alvez not just an ACTOR

Benjamin Sapida, better known as Benjamin Alves celebrated his 27th Birthday with the students of Asia Pacific Students specifically the ones who are taking the English term AB Multimedia Students and the Engineering Students.

It wasn't just a simple celebration with food and games but we celebrated his birthday with a bit of his  taste “Poetry” Yes, I was also shocked of what he was into besides from acting who would have thought a busy actor like him gives time to writing poetry right? Actually besides from his passionate acting skills he is also a good Poet he even shared his own composition but sadly I wasn't able to take note of its title but I do remember the message of it. It has something to do with love where he was able to be with someone but then it’s just not at the right time, my favourite line on his poetry was “I’ll put my hands around your waist.” It just sounds so romantic. And also in the way he speaks it’s like he’s so used to slam poetry I like how he delivers every word he says, I actually fell for him for a bit lol because the way he delivers it is like it’s for me, it was that effective to touch every young girls heart ugh!

Example of his Poetry

Besides from him sharing his own composition some off the students of APC also shared their compositions. Some are from the engineering students, accountancy students and a couple from the multimedia art students. But what really struck me the most was the composition of the Engineering students it was just do relatable that I was like shouting “Bitin” which means it feels incomplete because I wanted more from them.

After all the sharing of composition we were given a chance to ask him questions and luckily I was one of the students who asked him my question was “Other than acting and poetry writing what are your other hidden talents?” and he was like hmmm, I don’t have any then he laughs but he sings us a song of John Legend’s All of me deep inside I had the “Kilig Feels” but I wasn’t showing that to everyone lol!. After I finished asking him I had a lucky kiss on the cheeks that made me feel more “kilig” because I wasn’t prepared for that my blockmates were dead jealous of me and I was like just laughing at them HAHA!

With this experience it taught me that actors and actresses are not just simple as “actors and actress” I mean they also have their hidden talents and hidden abilities that the publics still doesn’t know.

Animation an illusion

                                                                 Animation?  just for kids!

Well, I totally disagree, Yes it may seem  easy if look at it but behind those cartoon characters you see move on Disney Channel, Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon it will take a lot of patience, creative juices and long working hours for you to finish a single episode for that, imagine just a single episode.
Yes, I may not consider animation as one of my chosen fields for a major in the near future but I do really appreciate the work and effort of each animator we have, not just in our country but in the whole world.
Sir Tito Romero

In celebration of the annual SOMA Week, some of the soma students organized an Artist talk about animation where we met Sir. Tito Romero he was able to show us a couple of pictures taken inside an animation studio and told us  that it would take about 18 weeks to finish up a single episode and we only watch it for about 20 minutes, Imagine in just 20 minutes approximately a hundred of animators were working behind every each movement of a character. They work for about 35- 40 hours a week but all that hard work and effort will pay off once they get their job done.

Being able to go to this kind of talks was an honor because he was able to show us a couple of his works/ projects (animations) including yogi bear, X-men, Scooby doo and so much more where not all students like me are able to see. He even showed a clip/compilation video of all of his works that made the future animation students more inspired in their chosen field above all his works are just fantastic. I’d like to work with him in the future if given a chance and also I would like to commend him for doing such great works.

You must lose yourself if you want to be successful in animation and be the character.
